Mogadishu, Feb, 15, 2021 The Minister of Humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management Hon. Khadija Mohamed Dirie launched a preventative campaign against the spread of COVID-19 in the country Somalia.

In light of the second wave of the global outbreak of COVID-19 in the Country, the Minister decided to launch a very aggressive sensations and awareness campaigns against the spread of the pandemic among the Somali People.

The Ministry of Humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management started this week to produce a communications materials Informing populations about the health risks posed by COVID-19, as well as measures they can take to protect themselves.

These campaign is key to mitigating spread and reducing the likelihood that people will become infected, the provision of accurate, timely and frequent information in a language that people understand, via reliable channels, enables our populations to make decisions and adopt positive behaviors to protect themselves and their loved ones from diseases such as COVID-19.

Information is the most important resource to enable a population to make informed decisions on how to take care of their health, and to prevent rumors and misinformation.

Her excellency noted that this campaign shall focus on the IDP settlements As Mogadishu hosts the highest numbers of IDPs in the Country and facing the high risk of being affected by the spreading pandemic due to their overcrowded settlements.

In the event of a potential spread of COVID-19 among the Somali population, there is high concern that the crowded living conditions and poor access to health, water and sanitations can lead to a high infection rate.

“To contribute to the reduction and prevention of the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry will be conducted various community sensitization and awareness-raising campaigns, sharing accurate information on COVID-19 in line with the World Health Organization and the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health. ”Said Hon. The Ministry of Humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management (MoHADM) of Somalia is one of the organizations that, following the second wave of the outbreak in the country, began working with other state institutions such Ministry of the Health to develop a preparedness and containment framework.
