19 Jul Somalia holds its first Country Humanitarian Forum
19th July 2017, A Country Humanitarian Forum took place in Mogadishu under the auspices of the Somali MoHADM. Some 70 participants, among which representatives of the federal ministries, federal member states, United Nations, nongovernment organizations, and the private sectors, agreed that the forum will now serve as an important information sharing and coordination platform with international humanitarian actors.
The Federal Government of Somalia working closely with its partners has been able to avert a famine in Somalia so far, but the drought is not over yet and On 17 and 18 July, 2017, held a two-day consultative meeting led by the MoHADM with representations from all the relevant stakeholders. The meeting was an opportunity to draft the first national disaster management policy and deeply review and discuss the policy before formulation of the National Disaster Management Policy.
This policy aims to offer a glimmer of hope to improve country’s’ resilience and preparedness in the face of disaster and emergencies. The policy also provides legislative framework for disaster management within government institutions to accelerate the establishment of mechanism that will reduce the negative impact of disasters.
